Winter 2007 Stitch Along pg. 2
Notes for these Sections:
It is very easy to miss an increase stitch in these mechanics, so that the two sides end up with different numbers of stitches. I hate counting stitches, so I really don’t worry about it. When my shawls are 9 feet long across the top... one or two stitches isn’t noticeable.
Consequentially, the instructions for these sections are not precise, row by row, instructions. I present the general stitch pattern to follow, and a tip for identifying what stitch to work after the Edge and Increase stitches.
All of the stitch combos have specific instructions to determine what to work into a specific stitch. The only two stitches that aren’t clear are the Full stitches on the Beginning End, and right after the Tip instructions.
Trick:
To determine which stitch to work into one of these Full stitches, look at the stitches on the side you haven’t worked. Count backwards from there to determine which stitch should be next to keep the specific pattern.
IE: For the SOS St, you will be working Knit stitches into the Purl stitches, and Purls into the Knits. If the next stitch after the Full is a Purl, you know that you will be working a Knit into that stitch, so you will work a Purl into the Full stitch.
One more way of looking at this:
Beg St, Tss, Tfs, (2 Tps, 2 Tks- across row) {Tfs, Yo, ExTks, Yo, Tfs-Tip instructions} (2 Tps, 2 Tks- across row) Tss, Tfs, Last St. Return.
Beg St, Tss, Tfs, {the stitches after this Full are Purl, so you will be work 2 Knit into them. That means you need to work a Purl into the Full stitch} Tps (2 Tks, 2 Tps) across the side, Tks, {Tfs, Yo, ExTks, Yo, Tfs-Tip instructions} {the stitches after this Full are Purl, so you will be work 2 Knit into them. That means you need to work a Purl into the Full stitch} Tps, (2 Tks, 2 Tps) across the side, Tks, Tss, Tfs, last st. Return.
Section 3: Knit & Purl Honeycomb- The Honeycomb visual design on the back.
Row A: Forward and Return- Edge and increase sts, Tps in all stitches down this side, Tip Instructions, Tps in all stitches down this side, Increase and edge sts. Return. (This creates a defined break between the stitch combos).
Row B: Forward and Return: Edge and increase sts, (Tps, Tks) across this side, Tip Instructions, (Tps, Tks) across this side, Increase and edge sts. Return.
If you stitch everything according to the plan, you will be repeating Row B for a total of 6 rows, with A as the 7th. If your stitch count isn’t perfect, use the trick above to determine what stitch you will need to work into the Full sts at the beginning of each side.
Section 4: SOS Stitch (2 St Honeycomb)- The combination of 2 Tks and 2 Tps reminds me of the -dot,dot,dot, dash, dash dash,dot,dot,dot- of Morse Code.
Row A: Forward and Return- Tps in all stitches, work last as you normally would. Return. (This creates a defined break between the stitch combos).
Row B: Forward and Return- Edge and increase sts, (2Tps, 2Tks) across this side, Tip Instructions, (2Tps, 2Tks) across this side, Increase and edge sts. Return. (This is the Basic Pattern.)
Row C: Forward and Return- Edge and increase sts,(use Trick to determine what st to work into the Full st) Work Knit sts into Purl sts, work Purl sts into Knit sts across this side. Tip Instructions.(use Trick to determine what st to work into the Full st) Work Knit sts into Purl sts, work Purl sts into Knit sts across this side. Increase and edge sts. Return.
Repeat Row C for a Total of 6 rows; Row A is the 7th row. Posted Jan 24, 2007.
