All Melons will need a medium brown yarn for the stem.
Be sure to use a hook size to accommodate the yarn you choose.
I used worsted weight yarn with an H hook.
In Center Color:
Round 1: Ch 3 (serves as 1st Dc now and throughout) 15 Dc. Connect with sl st.
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 DC in each stitch. (29 st including ch 3). Connect with sl st. End off, and weave threads.
Attach 2nd color in any Dc:
Round 3:. Ch 2, (1 Hdc in next st, 2 Hdc in next st.) 14 times to work around coaster. I Hdc in last st. Connect to beg ch, end off and weave threads.
Attach 3rd color in any Hdc.
Round 4: Ch 1, Sc in each st around edge, adding additional stitches to prevent curling. (With my tension, I rarely have to add SC to the edge, you may need to.) DO NOT CONNECT; INSTEAD LEAVE A SINGLE STITCH GAP.
Attach the medium brown yarn in gap at top of coaster. Ch 6. Starting in 2nd ch from hk, work 3 Sc into each st. Connect to Melon, end off and weave threads. Twist the stem to create the ‘curly-q.’
