Halloween Motifs
Ghost Fridige/Motif
White worsted weight yarn and an H sized hook.
Round 1: Ch 9. In 2nd ch from hk, work 1 Hdc. 7 Hdc to the end. 8 Hdc in last st to round the corner. 1 Hdc in each foundation ch (8 Hdc on this side.) Ch 2 and turn.
Round 2: 9 Hdc down side. 2 Dc into next 5 sts (to round the end). 9 Hdc to end. For Fridgie or Pin: End off and weave threads.
Round 3: (for larger bulletin board motif) Ch 2. 1 Hdc in next 8 sts. 2 Hdc into next 10 sts. 1 Hdc in the next 9 sts. End off and weave threads. You can glue Wiggle Eyes and/or Black Sequins to create the face of the ghost. Add a magnet or a lapel pin to the back.
Spider's Web Coasters
Done in Worsted weight yarn and an H sized hook, these simple coasters measure 4 1/2 inches across.
I used Black yarn from Caron.
Ch 4. Connect to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 6 (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 3 sp.) *Dc into ring. Ch 3. Repeat from * 6 more times, 8 Dc/Ch 3 Spaces total. Connect to beg ch.
Round 2: Ch 8 (serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 5 sp.) * Dc into next Dc. Ch 5. Repeat from * around circle. Connect to beg ch.
Round 3: Ch 6 (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 3 sp.) *Dc into Ch5 Sp. Ch 3. Dc into next Dc. Repeat from * around circle. Connect to beg ch.
Round 4: Ch 1. 2 Sc into same Ch 3 sp. *3 Sc into next Ch 3 sp. Repeat from * around circle. Connect to beg ch, end off and weave threads.
Spider Web Doily
For this piece, I used Aunt Lydia's Denim Cotton (worsted weight) yarn in black.
Using an H hook, this doily/motif is 11 inches across.
Ch 4. Connect to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 6 (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 3 sp.) *Dc into ring. Ch 3. Repeat from * 6 more times, 8 Dc/Ch 3 Spaces total. Connect to beg ch.
Round 2: Ch 5. (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 2 sp.) *Work 1 Suspended Picot. Ch 2. Dc into next Dc. Ch 2. Repeat from * around circle. Sl St around beg ch, to connect.
Round 3: Ch 7. (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 3 sp.) *Work 1 Suspended Picot. Ch 3. Dc into next Dc. Ch 3. Repeat from * around circle. Sl St around beg ch, to connect.
Round 4: Ch 5. (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 2 sp.) *Work 1 Suspended Picot. Ch 2, Dc into Ch 3 sp of previous round. Ch 2, Work 1 Sus. Picot st. Ch 2, Dc into next Ch 3 sp. Ch 2, work 1 Sus. Picot. Ch 2, Dc into Dc. Ch 2. Repeat from * around circle. Sl St around beg ch, to connect. (This will triple the number of Sus. Picot stitches.)
Round 5: Ch 5 (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 2 sp.) *Work 1 Suspended Picot. Ch 2. Dc into next Dc. Ch 2. Repeat from * around circle. Sl St around beg ch, to connect.
Round 6: Ch 6. (Serves as 1st Dc and 1st Ch 3 sp.) *Work 1 Suspended Picot. Ch 3. Dc into next Dc. Ch 3. Repeat from * around circle. Sl St around beg ch, to connect. End off and weave threads.
NOTES: You could extend this doily by 1 or 2 more rounds by repeating Round 6. Also, I had fewer troubles working with this thread, by switching to a Susan Bates (inline) hook, instead of a Boye.
