ARNie’s Method for Working Tunisian Crochet Cables
Work the stitches of your piece up to the Cable section.

Adding even 1 Trps, will create a defined visual barrier between the cable and the background stitches.

Work the first stitches of the Cable, yarn over the hook, but do not skip a stitch.
I found two important tricks to making      Tunisian Crochet cables stand out:

By simply adding a Yarn Over in key places, this allows the various sections of stitching to stand up, instead of the Cross Bars stretching them out flat.

Also, using Reverse Purl (Trps) on either side of the cable, creates a more defined  visual break between the   texture of the surrounding stitches and the Cable stitches.

Notice in these two samples, that the texture of the Purl stitches doesn't allow the Cables to really stand out, and the Cables themselves seem quite flat.
Continue working the remaining stitches and Return as you normally would.
Cable Twist Row
Work all stitches including the Trps up to the Cable section.

With the Cable Stitch Hook, work the first half of the Cable, drop this hook (& stitches) either in front or in back of the piece.  This will create either an Upward twist or a Downward twist.

Do Not work a Yarn Over & Do not work a stitch into the Yarn Over Space.  Work the remaining stitches of the cable with the long hook.
Work remaining stitches of Cable section, and the Trps to finish framing the Cable section.

Work the rest of the row and Return as you normally would.

To create the height of the cable, repeat these instructions, DO NOT work  a stitch into the Yarn Over Space.
Tip: sliding the stitches into the hook portion, will help pull the cable hook downward to get it out of the way of the long hook when working the remaining stitches of the Cable.
Pick up the Cable Stitch Hook.  Slide the stitches to the pointed end of this hook and slip them onto the Long hook.
